About Us
Partners for Better Life (PBL) was established in June 2015 and formally incorporated in 2016 as a non-profit organization under the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms, Ministry of Commerce, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Our mission is to support adolescents and youth—specifically women and girls—in making safe, informed decisions regarding their health, hygiene, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). We are committed to protecting individuals from gender-based violence and harassment, ensuring our empowerment initiatives remain inclusive of all cultural, religious, and sexual orientations.
PBL operates on the core conviction that a lack of Knowledge, Information, and Capacity (KIC) is the critical missing link between marginalization and empowerment. We believe these three elements bridge the gap between ignorance and enlightenment, poverty and prosperity, and discrimination and dignity. To address this, PBL provides essential information and services that facilitate easy access to comprehensive sexuality education. We empower young people to demand high-quality services, raise their voices against injustice, and transform systemic challenges into opportunities for a better life.
Our organizational strength is rooted in our unwavering commitment to our mission and the communities we serve. At PBL, our dedication to the people remains the cornerstone of our impact and our drive for social change.
The Genesis of PBL
The foundation of Partners for Better Life (PBL) was inspired by the field experiences of our founder and former CEO during a 2015 initiative focused on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). While serving as a Team Leader for a consortium partner in a project supported by Oxfam NOVIB, he recognized a critical gap in the prevailing campaign model. While the project successfully delivered awareness sessions within schools and local communities, there was a strategic need to measure how this newfound awareness translated into tangible behavioral change.
To test this impact, the founder—with the endorsement of Oxfam—mobilized seed funding from personal resources and contributions from colleagues. This funding launched a pilot program designed to assess the practical application of awareness by making sanitary napkins available for purchase within schools. The objective was to determine if students would proactively seek hygiene products following their educational sessions.
The results of this six-month pilot were compelling, demonstrating a significant and promising shift in student behavior. This success provided the strategic momentum to establish PBL in June 2015. To sustain and scale this mission, the organization was formally registered in August 2016, marking the beginning of our long-term commitment to practical, impactful interventions in youth health and empowerment.
